WHAT IS ISPO BRANDNEW
For 10 years ispo BrandNew is regarded as the barometer of future trends of sport industry. At the ispo winter 09 BrandNew Awards was presented for the 18th time. The competition aims to give young entrepreneurs with their sports products a stage where they can introduce themselves to the market. For that purpose the best products receive a booth at ispo and are promoted in numerous means of communication.
The Bulgarian web plattform SKI.BG and SKI&BOARD magazine are an important media partners of ispo BrandNew in Eastern Europe. In this section of SKI.BG we present you the current innovations of young entrepreneurs which were elected winners and finalists by the jury. CHANCES
The ispo BrandNew Awards endow you the unique opportunity, to present your innovative, creative ideas to an international audience consisting of 65.000 professional visitors, retailers and journalists alike, coming from more than 100 countries worldwide.
You can expect the following: If you get selected as one of the lucky winners of each category, your company obtains a fully equipped free booth consisting of 15 square meters at the BrandNew Village. In addition, all other finalists get a free booth of 10 square meters.

THE CATEGORIES
At this year's ispo BrandNew Awards you can submit in seven different categories from hardware to accessories and even apparel.
THE CRITERIA ARE...
All together 9 prizes will be awarded at BrandNew. Beside the ADVANSA ThermoCool Overall Award the winners of each category receive an award. In addition the users will award an Online Award through the Hottest Brands section. Thereby a fair competition can be warranted and similar products are combined in one category.
HARDWARE WINTER
The category Hardware Winter is especially for all hardware and sports equipment that is applied predominantly during winter. All product submissions from ski, snowboard, sledge to bindings or fun sports equipment for usage in snow belong to this category.
HARDWARE SUMMER
All sports equipment that is predominantly used in summer falls in the category Hardware Summer. Skateboards, bikes, or water sports equipment can be submitted in this category just as surfboards or novel games.
HARDWARE ACCESSORIES
Hardware Accessories includes all products that are not independent sports equipment itself, but are used as improvement or in addition to existing equipment. This comprehends as well all equipment that support sports as locating and measurement devices. All products that are predominantly used in combination with hardware products fall in this category.
SPORTSWEAR
The category Sportswear includes any kind of apparel as well as trainers that can be worn during sports or which is necessary for exercising sports. The spectrum ranges from a complete winter collection over sports apparel for summer up to yoga, fitness or underwear clothing. Novel membranes, technologies and fabrics are as well part of this category.
STYLE
Sports is intimately connected with fashion. This category is exclusive for fashion. In this category falls apparel with extraordinary prints and cuts as well as stylish accessories. Fashion for athleticism in every aspect.
ACCESSORIES
Accessories is the category for everything that is no sports equipment, but anyway is intended for sports. That includes sports nutrition, camera bodies or MP3 players for example.

The winner of each BrandNew category and the overallwinner will receive:

Those entries who did not win their category but were selected by the jury as finalists (places 8-40 in the ispo BrandNew competition), there will only be a small amount of 1250 EUR due. It will be refunded in case you return to ispo as exhibitor at one of the two subsequent ispo trade shows.

THE JURY INTRODICES ITSELF
Ever year a specialized top-class jury of around 20 international experts from the sporting goods industry, marketing, sports press, etc. meets and nominates the winners and finalists of the ispo BrandNew Award. All handed in products are presented, tested and evaluated for a whole day. After several evaluation rounds the winners are determined at the end of the day.
Official selection criteria:
- Innovation - Is the product new? Does it have innovative features? Does it work?
- Design - Are design and performance convincing? Is the product safe enough and elaborated right down to the last detail?
- Marketing - Appealing brand and communication, clear positioning, which image is created and trnasported, quality of advertising materials, logo, marketing activities
- Market - How is the market potential? What are the target groups? What about competitors in that specific field? Development of the target market? Is the product at the pulse of time?
After long and thorough discussions, the winners of the respective categories are drawn by ballot. The last ballot decides over the overall winner - chosen from the winners of all BrandNew categories.

FACTS ABOUT ISPO - THE BIGGEST SPORTING GOODS FAIR TRADE WORLDWIDE
The world's largest sporting goods trade show, ispo, was held for the 69th time from February 1st to 4th, 2009, in Munich. Despite the strike by Munich's Transportation Authority (MVG) more than 60,000 industry visitors from more than 100 countries (2008: 64,000 visitors from 113 countries) came to Munich to preview the latest trends for the winter season 2009/10, presented by 1,950 exhibitors from 50 countries (2008: 2,026 / 47) on a total of 185,000 sqm of exhibition space at the New Munich Trade Fair. The international character of ispo winter was again at a high level, close to 66 percent of visitors came from abroad, among the exhibitors the percentage of foreign brands was 83 percent (2008: 70% / 84%).
Trade show participants, exhibitors and visitors alike, were very pleased with ispo winter 09 and gave it consistently very good marks. The good mood among all was a result of a very positively progressing winter sports season, as well as of the multi-faceted and high quality selection of exhibited products. |
