Sun brings a few surprises in second men's Downhill training
ALPINE SKI WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS. SCHLADMING, Austria – Today’s second men’s Downhill training run for the men showed their gentlemen’s side. In order to give priority to the preparation of the finish area to host the slalom leg of the ladies’ Super Combined race, the men skied their training run only down to the last intermediate time, located around the Slalom start.
On what most skiers defined as a “perfectly prepared slope” the training run went smoothly but be saw some unexpected names pop to the top of the leader’s board.
As the sun made its way over the mountains for the later numbers, adding visibility to the slope, Brice Roger who started with bib number 35 took his chance and placed himself into the lead. The French skier clocked a time 0.33 seconds faster than second ranked Andrej Sporn and 0.48 seconds faster than third ranked Marco Sullivan.
The fastest of the top favorites for Saturday’s race was Klaus Kroell who completed his training in sixth position. Aksel Lund Svindal finished eight, Erik Guay tenth, and Dominik Paris 14th only to mention those in the top 15.
The excitement with the men continues tomorrow when one of the most awaited races of the Championships is scheduled – the men’s Downhill starts on Saturday at 11.00 CET sharp.
