ISMF World Ski Mountaineering Championships 2013 - Pelvoux, France

SKI MOUNTAINEERING. Italy leads the medal chart after 3 days of competition, in front of France and Switzerland. Wednesday’s senior individual race looks to be vital for all the competing nations.

Today’s event went on under exceptional race conditions because about 40cm of fresh snow fell overnight and yesterday. After this snow front, it was under a radiant sun and on fresh, light and abundant snow that the 47 junior competitors of these 2013 World Championships set off. This Tuesday 12th February was dedicated to them, and all eyes were on them, cadets and Juniors of 13 different nations (France, Italy, Spain, Andorra, Switzerland, Belgium, Germany, Bulgaria, USA, Austria, Czech Republic, Poland, South Korea). The parcourse included 2 to 3 climbs according to the categories with the parcourse summit at 2410m.

The cadets, cadettes and female juniors had each 850m of altitude difference to race and the male juniors took on 1300m.

The results

On this level, the German Anton PALZER heavily dominated the race just like his compatriot Josef ROTTMOSER the day before, with an advance of over 5 minutes on arrival. The second junior is Italian, Nadir MAGUET, followed closely by Rémi BONNET the Swiss at only 1min 30s.

For the girls, the Italian Alba DE SILVESTRO came through in front of the young Frenchwoman Sophie MOLLARD who followed her closely. The Andorran Inka BELLES NAUDI finished the Girl’s Junior podium.

For the younger ones, in the cadets and  cadettes categories, it’s the French girls who largely dominated events by taking up the first two podium places ; bravo to Fanny MEYNET-CORDONNIER and Adèle MILLOZ, decidedly in strength after their podium place for the Sprint yesterday morning. Another Italian, Giulia COMPAGNONI finished up the podium.

In the male cadets category, Davide MAGNINI (IT) climbed up to the highest step of the podium in front of Simon BELLABOUVIER, the young French hopeful of the discipline. Another Italian to finish up this male cadets podium with Pietro CANCLINI.
