SKI CLASSICS. The first race of Swix Ski Classics 2014 moves from the Czech Republic to Switzerland next Sunday the 12th of January due to lack of snow in the Czech Republic.

The first race of the long distance ski championship usually starts in the Czech Republic with the 50km long track of the Jizerská 50, north east of Prague. Due to lack of snow they have to cancel the race on Sunday and Swix Ski Classics premiere will instead be moved to Eastern Switzerland.
“We regret that this has happened. Temperatures remain above freezing in Bedrichov and it is supposed to get even warmer in the coming days. Unfortunately, this critical situation has forced us to definitively decide that this year’s Jizerska 50 will not happen,” said Marek Tesar of the organising agency Mather Activation, confirming the race’s cancellation
”We had to move the elite race from the Czech Republic to Switzerland due to lack of snow in the Jizera Mountain region. The extended forecast neither suggests further snowfall that could somehow salvage the event. The Swix Ski Classics organisation has therefore decided to move the elite race for the professional teams to Switzerland where there are good snow conditions and an experienced organization capable of making an event in such a short notice.” says David Nilsson CEO Ski Classics

Swix Ski Classics is the long distance ski championships, consisting of six of the most prestigious ski events in the world: Jizerská Padesatká in Czech Republic, Marcialonga in Italy, König Ludwig Lauf in Germany, Vasaloppet in Sweden, Birkebeinerrennet in Norway and Årefjällsloppet the Swix Ski Classics Final.
