The current leader in the Swix Ski Classics Champion competition, Rikard Tynell, did a surprisingly strong race at La Diagonela and will have a though competition defending the yellow leading bib on Sunday. Last year’s winner Jørgen Aukland (Team Centric) had an injury since La Diagonela but will together with skiers such as Jerry Ahrlin (Team Centric), Oskar Svärd (Team Coop), John Christian Dahl (Team United Bakeries) and other male skiers keep an eye on Rikard not giving him or other skiers a gap like last race. Seraina is the current leader in the womens competition after her victory at home in Switzerland. She will for sure fight for another victory with candidates like Susanne Nyström (Team Centric), Vibeke Skofterud (Team NPRO), Larisa Shaydurove (Russia Marathon Team) and more.
Marcialonga is a 70km race in classic technique and begins with 18km mostly uphill to Canazei before the course turns around and goes 45km primarily downhill to the village of Molina. There the course turns once again uphill and 3km before the finishline i Cavalese the skiers reach the famous climb of Cascata. There are two Swix Ski Classics sprints in the picturesque race of Marcialonga: one after 18km in Canazei and the other after 55km in Lago di Tesero, located at the ski stadium of Val di Fiemme. Marcialonga will be broadcasted on TV in more than 55 countries all over the world.
Swix Ski Classics is the long distance ski championships, consisting of the six most prestigious ski events in the world: La Diagonela Switzerland, Marcialonga Italy, König Ludwig Lauf Germany, Vasaloppet Sweden, Birkebeinerrennet Norway and the Swix Ski Classics Final Årefjällsloppet Sweden, all 50km or more and open for professional as well as amateur skiers.
