WHISTLER, B.C. - The first women's Olympic downhill training run was canceled due to fog on Thursday, but not before American Stacey Cook, the second racer on course, crashed and was airlifted off the mountain.
Italian Lucia Recchia made it down safely in 1 minute, 52.39 seconds but Cook got in the back seat over the first jump and crashed when she landed. Her skis slid apart and though she appeared to regroup and stood up, she sat back down again, favoring her leg and holding her face.
The fog, settling on different parts of the course throughout the morning, set in thick as Cook was being prepared for the helicopter, and she was the last racer put on course before officials canceled training.
The women will attempt another training run Friday morning.
