. world ski news : Men’s super combined and giant slalom at 2010 Olympic Winter Games Rescheduled for February 21-23 - 17 Ôåâðóàðè 2010 - 14:28
OLYMPICS, ALPINE SKIING. Whistler, BC ― The men’s super combined and men’s giant slalom competitions at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games originally scheduled for today and Sunday at Whistler Creekside have been postponed to take place on Sunday, February 21 and Tuesday, February 23.
The postponement is the result of snowfall overnight (20 centimetres at the top of the course and 10 cm at the finish area) that insulated the field of play, resulting in course conditions that are too soft for competition. Aconsistent track is necessary for optimal and safe racing so the decision was taken by the International Ski Federation (FIS) at 5:00 am this morning to postpone the races until a later date.
In all alpine competitions, the speed events are staged ahead of the technical events to maintain snow conditions. The postponement of the super combined (which includes the downhill) therefore resulted in a rescheduling of the giant slalom as well to a later date.
The men’s alpine skiing super combined events, originally scheduled today for 10:00 am (downhill) and 1:30 pm (slalom), will now take place on Sunday, February 21 at 9:30 am (downhill) and 12:30 pm (slalom).
The men’s giant slalom competition, originally scheduled for Sunday, February 21 at 10:00 am and 1:45 pm, will now take place on Tuesday, February 23 at 9:30 am and 1:00 pm.
