ÑÊÈ ÑÊÎÊ, ÊÎÍÒÈÍÅÍÒÀËÍÀ ÊÓÏÀ. Rok Zima from Slovenia was the best in the second competition in Lillehammer. He jumped 132.5 m and 125.5 m and won with a total of 248.6 points. After he was already on the podium in Courchevel in July, this was the first Continental Cup victory for the 22-year-old.
Vincent Descombes Sevoie could repeat his good performance from the day before and finished second with 229.6 points and 122.5 m and 125.5 m. Former overall World Cup winner Jakub Janda could move up a lot of places with a strong second jump and came in third with 227.9 points (119 m / 127.5 m).
Local hero Rune Velta was in the lead after the first round, that had to be restarted after 40 jumpers after a change of the gate. With only 106.5 m in the final he lost some places but remained best Norwegian as ninth.
It was a disappointing day for Austria. Only Andreas Strolz (13th), who was second after the first round, and Thomas Diethart (30th) made it to the final. David Unterberger, Lukas Mueller, Markus Eggenhofer and Stefan Hayboeck could not qualify for the final round.
It went even worse for Finland. On both days none of their four jumpers could score points. Also Rafal Sliz from Poland, very good second on the first day, could not reach the Top 30.
Statements:
Rok Zima: "I'm very happy, this is great for me. In the second round I was a little bit lucky with the conditions, but this really felt great.
Vincent Descombes Sevoie: "Second time on the podium this weekend: Yesterday third, today second. I just love Lillehammer."
Jakub Janda: "My jumps today were not great, but okay. The conditions were difficult."
First victory for Chedal
Emmanuel Chedal from France could win his first Continental Cup competition on the first day in Lillehammer with jumps of 135 m and 129 m that earned him a total of 259.9 points
Rafal Sliz, who was in the lead after the first round, finished second with 246.9 points (136.5 m and 120 m). With Vincent Descombes Sevoie as third (131.5 m / 123.5 m; 245.7 points) another French landed on the podium.
Marco Grigoli (SUI) missed the third place by only 0.5 points, but still achieved the best result of his career as fourth.
Just like in the Summer Grand Prix the Polish jumpers showed a strong team performance. With Sliz, Marcin Bachleda (6th) and Grzegorz Mietus (9th) three athletes reached the Top 10.
Statements:
Emmanuel Chedal: "It was great and I'm very happy about this victory. The hill here in Lillehammer suits me well and I hope this was the start of a good season."
Rafal Sliz: "The second jump was better than the first one but then I had better conditions. I'm happy."
Vincent Descombes Sevoie: "Before the competition my goal was to be in the Top 10. The third place is great for me."
