SKI JUMPING. The ski jumping fans can look forward to a lot of highlights next summer. Tradition meets modernity, there will be a new competition series in Poland, but without leaving the well known sites in the Alps out of the calendar. In other words: Lots of skijumping in summer 2011.
The opening of the FIS GP 2011 will be a newly introduced series, that already was held many years ago as the "Beskids-Cup". The first competition will be held on July 17th at the Adam-Malysz-Hill in Wisla. Then circuit will travel to Szczyrk (July 20th) before the tour through the High Tatra will end with two competitions in Zakopane (July 22nd/23rd). One of the events in Zakopane will be a team competition. So the enthusiastic Polish fans will get their money's worth.
Paul Ganzenhuber, chairman of the FIS committee for calendar planning, announced this idea a couple of weeks ago in Wisla.
After a break of two weeks the GP shall continue on August 7th in Hinterzarten. The competitions in Courchevel (FRA) and Einsiedeln (SUI) will then be held on August 12th and 14th.
The status of the trip to Japan will be enhanced. On the way back from the two competitions in Hakuba the athlete's will stop in Almaty in Kazakhstan, where the new facility was opened with a Continental Cup a couple of days ago. Whoever doesn't want to take the trip to Japan will lose the points awarded in three competitions.
With the next stage the FIS GP will return to Austria again. The event will take place in Hinzenbach, where a new hill (HS 94) will be opened after four years of construction with the Austrian championships in October. After the competition in Austria the jumpers will travel to the traditional final in Klingenthal on October 3rd to crown the winner of the FIS GP 2011.
This calendar still has to be approved by the FIS Council.
