. световни ски новини : Switzerland`s Dominique Gisin awarded Lange Athlete 2011 - 16 Февруари 2011 - 17:36
The Swiss Dominique Gisin has been voted Lange Girl of the Year 2011 after Manuela Moelgg, who was awarded with this title in the previous year. In 2009, Maria Riesch was chosen, while Resi Stiegler was the Lange girl in 2008 and Julia Mancuso in 2007.
It is this the most visually pleasing way of putting the ladies skiers, who are using the Italian ski boot Lange, in the spotlight.
The 25-year old Swiss Dominique Gisin has competed in 66 World Cups and has had six podium finishes in her career.
On January 13, 2007 Gisin landed her first World Cup podium in Altenmarkt-Zauchensee, Austria, where she placed second in the downhill. Two years later, on January 18, 2009 she captured her first win again in Altenmarkt-Zauchensee sharing the top of the downhill podium with Anja Pärson, who finished the race with the exact same time. Her first and only World Cup super G victory came in Crans Montana, Switzerland, on March 7, 2010.
Gisin, whose brother Marc is also a successful member of the Swiss men’s World Cup A-team, is still waiting for a medal at big events such as the Olympic Games or the World Ski Championships. A few days ago, she scored her career best result at a big event in the super combined, where she finished an excellent fourth. Her best result prior to this was a fifth place in downhill at the 2007 World Championships in Are.
As of February 2011, she has 3 World Cup victories, 6 podiums (4 in downhill, 2 in super G), and 20 top ten finishes.
Aside the slopes, Gisin attended the sports school located in her home town of Engelberg until 2005 before she started studying physics at the University of Basel. In the meantime, she discontinued her studies to fully focus on skiing. She also passed the entrance examination to be trained as a fighter-pilot in the Swiss Air Force but is considered unfit for service due to the numerous injuries she suffered during her skiiing career.
