. world ski news : Sanna Tidstrand, Simone Origone win speed ski titles - 10 Àïðèë 2011 - 08:56
SPEED SKI WORLD CUP. Because of a recent avalanche in Vars (FRA), the FIS Speed Skiing World Cup Final, due to be held there on 8th-11th April, has had to be cancelled. FIS commiserates with the organizers who had already done much preparation, and with the athletes who are denied this opportunity to compete.

An alternative location for this race could not be found at such short notice. Consequently the World Cup race held in Hundfjallet is now defined as the Final of the 2011 World Cup season.
The season titles 2011 hence went to Sweden's Sanna Tidstrand who dominated the ladies' circuit in her comeback season by claiming all six race victories. Teammate and 2010 champion Linda Baginski took 2nd.

In the men's competition, Simone Origone beat younger brother Ivan by 88 points for another title. The Swede's impressive team result was complemented by Christian Jansson in 3rd place in the men's rankings.

What's new in 2011
A word from the president
To all lovers of speed and extreme sensations, From April 16th to 24th 2011, the speed ski FIS World Championship, a SpeedMaster and the speed ski Swiss Championship will be organized on the vertiginous slope of the Mt-Fort.
The resorts of Verbier and Nendaz will, once again, assume the preparation of the track to offer the skiers from 17 countries the best possible safety racing conditions.
The committee of the Xspeedski 2011 would like to thank MM. Eric Balet and Frederic Glassey and their teams for the huge support they bring every year for the event.
The Xspeedski Verbier-Nendaz-Mt-Fort is, actually, the greatest speed skiing event in the world and the 2011 edition will bring some great surprises.
If the participation of the best speed skiers in the world is common in Verbier, what will be special is the installation of a launching ramp at the top of the Mt-Fort track.
A metallic structure of 3 tons will be fixed to the platform of the upper arrival station of the cabin and will touch the snow some 40 m lower. This structure is composed of three elements carried by helicopter and then precisely assembled to have the best join possible with the track. The ramp will be covered by a Neveplast® carpet which allows the snow to stay and therefore propose an optimum gliding surface.
The installation of such a structure needs big investments both at the financial and technical levels. We hope to be able to use it at its maximum potential to get a chance to beat the world record which is currently 251.400 km/h.
All interested people and connoisseurs are welcome. Do not hesitate to meet us on the slopes of the Mt-Fort to see and discover this fantastic discipline where extreme sensations and adrenaline are guaranteed.
The skiers' zone is the right place for supporters and visitors to meet skiers and talk with them about their passion.
If you cannot come, feel free to follow the news and results of the different races live on the site www.xspeedski.net or on your smartphone at m.xspeedski.net.
If you wish to participate, no problem, register yourself as volunteer. We will be happy to welcome you in this fantastic adventure.
If you are a good skier, you can even try speed skiing during our traditional POP KL on April 16th and 17th.
All information concerning registration as volunteer or skier for the POP KL will be soon published on the site.
