ALPINE SKI. In Schladming, the construction work for the 2013 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships is in full swing. The finish area will be augmented by ˆ15 million service facilities and a subterranean tunnel to the media center.
The Planai finish area is currently a huge hole. Ernst Trummer, CEO of the Planai Bahn explained to ORF: “The service area amounts to the surface area of three football fields. The office space will be used as garage space later. All construction for storage and office space required by the World Championships is being built in just 118 days. The deepest point in the construction is currently 14 meter deep. There will be two subterranean service levels, one above the ground.”
In addition there will be a new tunnel leading from the service level in the finish to the new congress center which will serve as the media center during the Schladming 2013 World Championships. The congress center is scheduled to be opened in November.
There is already a high demand for tickets. The pre-sales will however only begin when the finish area construction has completed and the precise number of available seats is known.
