CROSS-COUNTRY SKI. If 2011 has been a sensational year for Italy’s Val di Fiemme and the Nordic Ski Fiemme committee; the next couple of seasons are about to blow everyone out of the water.
Last March, at the end of the FIS 2011 Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo (Norway), a delegation of the ‘Fiemme 2013’ OC received the FIS flag and brought it home with honor and excitement. In less than two years, Val di Fiemme will be hosting the next FIS Nordic World Champs, and it will be the third time after the 1991 and 2003 successful editions.
In addition, from January to March 2012, the alpine valley is hosting the final stages of the 2012 FIS Tour de Ski, men’s and ladies’ Ski Jumping World Cups, Nordic Combined World Cup and Continental Cup.
But all this couldn’t be enough for the insatiable Nordic Ski Fiemme committee and in less than a month, on October 1, entries will open for the second edition of the ‘Rampa con i Campioni’ event. It is an international and promotional open race in free technique, taking place on Sunday January 8th, 2012, a few hours before the last chapter of the FIS Tour de Ski 2011/12. It will start at 10.00 a.m. at the cross country stadium in Lago di Tesero, while the finish line will be set at the intermediate station of Alpe Cermis, after the legendary so-called “Final Climb” along the alpine skiing slope.

Entry fee for the ‘Rampa’ is ˆ 25 (race packet excluded), and registration forms and complete rules will be soon available online at www.fiemme2013.com. Entries will close on December 31, 2011 and a maximum number of 300 participants will be able to start in the race.
The first ever ‘Rampa’ event took place last January, right before Dario Cologna and Justyna Kowalczyk were crowned as new Tour de Ski king and queen. A bunch of former XC ski champions took part in the new competition, such as Czech Katerina Neumannova, Italy’s Cristian Zorzi and Fulvio Valbusa, the Swedish legend Torgny Mogren and those who invented the Tour de Ski series, Vegard Ulvang and Jürg Capol. Italian Bruno Debertolis and Lysanne Zago won the inaugural “Rampa”, but the party was great for everyone.

The 2012 edition of ‘Rampa con i Campioni’ has also been included in the national Granfondo Master Tour circuit along with renowned events such as Marcialonga, Gsiesertal Lauf and Granfondo Millegrobbe.
The last FIS inspection in Val di Fiemme took place at the end of August, and the Italian team was once again congratulated on the work done so far. The two main World Championships venues in Lago di Tesero (Cross-Country Skiing) and Predazzo (Ski Jumping) are due to be ready ahead of estimated time, and surely by the end of the year.
