SNOWBOARD. Patrizia Kummer (SUI) and Roland Fischnaller (ITA) have won the 2012 LG Snowboard FIS World Cup season's fourth parallel slalom and thus celebrated their season's third World Cup win each.
While the current high flyer of the female race board scene locked in a three-peat by triumphing over her team mate Julie Zogg (SUI), who secured her career's best result so far, in the ladies' finals, the male Italian snowboard team also secured a 1-2 punch as Fischnaller's rival in the finals, Aaron March (ITA), also comes from South Tyrol.
Three-peat for Kummer
But although Fischnaller also was able to win for the third time this winter, everybody in the race board scene couldn't believe, how commanding and sovereign Kummer nailed another World Cup win, including herself.
“Three wins in a row, I never thought of something like this. If somebody would have told me this in the beginning of this season, I wouldn't have believed him,” said the current dominating race board lady who seems to have something like an “all or nothing” attitude.
Every time, Kummer made it on a World Cup podium, she claimed the top spot. According to this, she has four wins to her belt so far and seems to be the one to beat at the moment.
“I'm so happy, I can't describe my feelings,” stated the 2009 World Championships PGS Bronze medalist.
“If I know bring it all together in the Parallel Giant Slaloms, I guess everything is possible. However, I still have the Yellow Bib in the next race.”
At the moment, the Parallel World Cup leader sits in first of the rankings having cumulated 3,640 points so far and thus 740 points more than her fellow countrywoman Fraenzi Maegert-Kohli (SUI, 2,900), who ranks second.
Fischnaller new World Cup leader
On the men's side, Roland Fischnaller took over the World Cup lead again with 4,130 points. So far leading Benjamin Karl (AUT, 4,020) ranks second, with a mere of 110 points behind.
“Indeed, I took over the World Cup lead today but it's going to be a very hard challenge to keep hold to it. I will fight hard and hope, that it pays off in the end. It would be a dream come true for me.”
But chances are better than never before for the 31-years-old from South Tyrol as he explained in the finish area.
“So far, it's my best season ever. We had a very good summer training and I'm mentally pretty strong right now. I just enjoy every race and see chances to attack on each course and not spots were I should stay focused.”
In addition, also the equipment seems to work perfectly for Fischnaller.
I just received a brand new board from Siegfried Grabner (SG Boards) today. I'm happy, that it worked out fine although it has been the first time with the new gear.
Marion Kreiner – fourth third rank of the season
In the battle for third, Marion Kreiner (AUT) beat Tomoka Takeuchi (JPN) on the women's side thus finishing a Parallel World Cup event as third ranked rider for the fourth time this season.
Rok Flander (SLO) rounded out the men's podium as third edging off Patrick Bussler (GER) to the fourth spot.
The LG Snowboard FIS World Cup continues with two snowboard cross races in Veysonnaz, Switzerland, including the one which was originally planned for Bad Gastein. The first will take place JAN 18-19, the second JAN 21-22.
