SPEED SKIING. The final runs at the FIS Speed Skiing World Cup in Verbier (SUI) last week had to be cancelled due to poor weather conditions, which meant that the competition was decided by Tuesday's run. The 2012 Speed Skiing season titles hence went to Sanna Tidstrand of Sweden and Klaus Schrottshammer of Austria.
For Sanna Tidstrand, this title was her fourth title and came after a stellar season with four of five possible victories beginning with a win in the Opening in Andorra where Sanna would have placed third in the men's competition with her recorded speed. She won the rankings with 460 points, 130 points more than France's Karine Dubouchet Revol who took second, whilst Norway's Liss-Anne Petterssen finished 3rd.
The Styrian Klaus Schrottshammer is the first Austrian man to win the overall World Cup rankings and receive the crystal globe denoting his feat. "This is the highpoint of my career and I would like to thank all that have contributed to this success. It was a long and difficult road with several setbacks. That is why I appreciate this success so highly," said Schrottshammer.
The Bad Mittendorf resident collected the maximum points of 500 and led the standings 190 points ahead of the Italian Ivan Origone. Swiss Philippe May took 3rd.
