Excellent skiing conditions at Bulgaria's most popular winter resorts - Borovets, Pamporovo and Bansko, kept them fully booked after the Christmas and New Year holidays. Bulgaria's Economy Ministry is confident that the tourists' figures will register a 15 percent rise over the ski season. Thompson, First Choice, Balkan Holidays and Thomas Cook are some of the major tour operators that offer skiing vacations in Bulgaria to foreigners. Some 20,000 Britons are expected to take down the slopes in Bulgaria's winter resorts. Estimates suggest that they will spend over USD 70 M. Bookings by Scandinavian and German tourists are also up after the poor snow of 2001/2002 season.
