. world ski news : Fattori wins, Eberharter is crowned - 04 March 2002 - 01:15
Italy's Alessandro Fattori claimed the penultimate Super Giant in Kvitfjell, Norway ahead of Switzerland's Didier Defago and Austria's Stephan Eberharter. Eberharter has not won the Super Giant World Cup yet but is crowned overall World Cup champion for the first time in his career.
Alessandro Fattori
Fattori clinched his second World Cup win in Kvitfjell. The 28-year-old Italian had previously won the Downhill in Val d'Isere last season.
Stephan Eberharter
However, the headlines on Monday might read: "Eberharter crowned World Cup champion". The experienced Austrian, third in the Super Giant, has an advantage of more than 400 points over his runner-up Norway's Kjetil-Andre Aamodt and with only four races left, he is therefore the new World Cup champion. With 100 points per victory, would Aamodt claim all four events in the World Cup final in Flachau next week, Eberharter would still have more points than his rival.
Germany's Hilde Gerg won the Super Giant World Cup for the second time after heavy snowfall and gusty winds forced organisers to cancel the penultimate event of the season in Lenzerheide.
