SKI JUMPING. After the opening events in Slovenia, the Continental Cup continues weekend at the Olympic-Hill in Garmisch-Partenkirchen (GER).
Due to strong winds the trial round on Friday had to be postponed and then cancelled. Also the competition was postponed and restarted a couple of times. The jury then decided to cancel the final round and so the result of the first round counted.
Kamil Stoch showed the longest jump in this round with 138 m and with 138.9 points the Pole could celebrate his third victory this summer.
With 133.9 points his teammate Stefan Hula finished second, Andreas Strolz from Austria was third with 133.6 points.
The second event on Saturday could take place as scheduled and once again Kamil Stoch was the best. The 23-year-old showed jumps of 134 m and 132.5 m and reached a total of 259.2 points.
Andreas Strolz could move up one place compared to the day before and came in second with 245.3 points. With Dawid Kubacki as third (240.9 points) yet another jumper from Poland landed on the podium.
Stefan Hula as fifth and Krzysztof Mietus as seventh completed the, once again, strong result of the Polish team while athletes like Markus Eggenhofer, Ilja Rosliakov, Sami Niemi and Dimitri Ipatov could not qualify for the final round.
Statements:
Kamil Stoch: "I like jumping here in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. I want to do my best also in the next competitions but my coaches will decide about the future schedule. I have to wait for that now."
Andreas Strolz: "After the third place yesterday and the second today my goal, of course, still is the Summer Grand Prix. But my teammates are also strong so I have to continue training hard so I can take part."
Dawid Kubacki: "I'm very happy about my result today. That's good, now we have holidays for a couple of days and so we can relax. I don't know yet if I'll continue jumping in the COC."
After a short break the Continental Cup will continue in three weeks with two competitions in Courchevel (FRA).
