ALPINE SKI WORLD CUP. The outdoor FIS World Cup season 2010/2011 is traditionally getting underway in Sölden this weekend with the Rettenbach glacier hosting the season opening for the 13th time. The Audi FIS Ski World Cup in Sölden is also the first on-mountain event for a winter that includes a full program of more than 300 FIS World Cup competitions and the FIS World Championships in all disciplines. After Sölden, there are just a few more than 100 days until the season's alpine ski racing highlight, the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen (GER) that are scheduled to begin on 7th February 2011.

Thanks to freshly fallen snow and low temperatures the competitions will be held as scheduled in Sölden on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th October 2010. Markus Mayr, FIS Race Director for the ladies' technical events gave the thumbs up following the snow control last Thursday. Ever since, the Sölden team has been working to prepare the race course and their work is going according to schedule.
According to the current forecast, partially cloudy weather is expected at least for Saturday, with potentially more overcast weather and precipitation on Sunday.
Besides the racing, a full schedule of activities is awaiting the white circus in Sölden. Dozens of press conferences, the announcement of the Skieur d'Or 2010 and various side events will ensure an exciting weekend at the start of the season.
