Tina Maze wins first competition of the weekend - SuperCombi
ALPINE SKI. Tina Maze did it! She landed her first victory in St. Moritz, Switzerland ahead of Austria’s Nicole Hosp and Kathrin Zettel. With a margin of 0.88 and 1.08 seconds, she won today’s super combined and adds more World Cup points to her collection, the highest result she has ever achieved at this stage.
Already after the first run, Tina clearly underlined her objective to win all three races this weekend. “I have trained extremely hard and this is my goal! This was a first step towards it. I want to ski fast and show everything I can!”
The ladies could enjoy relatively good weather conditions in the morning in the Engadine Valley although temperatures were down to -17° Celsius. With tougher visibility in the second run, the best skiers were still showcasing some great action.
One of them was Kathrin Zettel who was very satisfied with her third spot: "I wasn’t expecting this result today, because I was imagining the super names like Lindsey and Maria up front. I was happy about my super-G run and managed to keep the gap also during the slalom race which earned me a podium result today."
Maria-Hoefl Riesch, third after the first run scored fourth in the end while local hero Lara Gut made it to fifth place after she was second in the first round.
Lindsey Vonn, three-times champion from the past races in Lake Louise skied out in the second run and did not make it to the finnish. "It's unfortunate but it wasn't my race", she said afterwards.
Tomorrow, 8th December, will see the ladies' super-G competition. Tina Maze, eager to win, has not reached the top of the podium in a super-G ever before. Let's see if she can do it!
The race will be staged at 11:30 CET. Stay tuned!
