ALPINE SKIING. The second day from the Balkan Open Cup ski race, Maria Kirkova (Bulgaria) won the first place, her time being the best – 1:50,06 min (1-st run 50,29 sec and 59,77 sec 2-d run). The contest took place at the slope Alberto Tomba. Only 1,43 sec behind Maria finished the yang Bulgarian ski star Silvia Madjarska, followed by Gergana Shokova (Bulgaria). The winner in the GS the day before, Dessislava Djurova, did not finished the 1-st run.
“In every competition I strive to give the best I can.”, said Maria Kirkova. “The Bulgarian team showed very good results in that race. I hope that very soon we will be first not only in Bulgaria, but also on the world races slopes.”.
The best in the men’s GS the first day was Vassilis Dimitriadis with 1:42,49 min (45,60 and 56,89 sec). The other two places on the podium took two Bulgarian skiers – Dean Todorov (second) and Georgi Georgiev (3-th. Georgi is from the “B” national alpine team).
