SWIX SKI CLASSICS. Swix Ski Classics continued today with the fifth event, Marcialonga. A shorten course made for a active race with high speed and a fight for the positions directly from the start. Marcialonga ends with a extremely challenging last climb of 2km up to the finish in Cavalese. Øysten Peterssen Team United Bakeries, made a move just before the last climb and lead the race until the last 500m. But Tord Asle Gjerdalen and Anders Aukland, both Team Santander, caught him during the last 500m of the race and it all ended up with a sprint finish. Gjerdalen was the strongest in the end just ahead of Aukland and Peterssen.
-Really cool to win here in Italy and one of the most important races of the season. We had incredible skis and the whole team did a great job attacking during the race, says Tord Asle Gjerdalen who won his first Ski Classics race. The women’s races also came down to a tight finish. Katerina Smutna Team Silvini Madshus, Laila Kveli, Team Santander and Seraina Boner, Team Coop entered the last climb close together. It was a hard fight where Smutna made the final move close to the finish and could win ahead of Kveli and Boner.
-It was a really hard race, especially the last uphill. But I had enough strength today to win the race in the end, says Katerina Smutna. In the Swix Ski Classics Champion competition presented by Rottefella Anders Aukland, Team Santander takes over the yellow leading bib for the men. Katerina Smutna keeps the bib for the women and increases her lead. Anders Nygaard, Team Santander takes back the green Swix Ski Classics sprint bib and Team United Bakeries is increasing their lead in the team competition. Bill Impola, Team Coop takes back the pink Swix Ski Classics youth bib for the men and Tone Sundvor, Team Synnfjell takes the lead in the women’s youth competition and gets to wear the pink bib for the first time. Next Swix Ski Classics event is König Ludwig Lauf next weekend.
