ALPINE SKI. “Today is certainly not an easy day for me, as I have decided to end my career with immediate effect after 13 years. I made this decision with a heavy heart & after much consideration over the last few weeks. After my injury in spring & the past two months of snow training, I realised that I would no longer be able to reach my absolute top level. From a very young age, it has always been my ambition & incentive to compete for success & to inspire you on the slopes. But now that I have the feeling that I can no longer live up to this, this is a very difficult but inevitable decision for me. With the memory of my last race weekend in Garmisch and the victory in the downhill, it is a nice time to leave the winter sports stage.”

With these words, Viktoria Rebensburg (GER) decided to announce the end of her career after 13 years of successes and in the same post, she wanted to thank all the people who accompanied her in this incredible journey.

The German ski-star has certainly been one of the most successful skiers of the last decade boasting two Olympic medals including the gold medal in Vancouver, two silver medals at the World Championships, 19 World Cup victories, 48 World Cup podiums and 3 Giant Slalom titles.

Viktoria Rebensburg suffered a fracture in one of her tibias on February the 9th in a World Cup Super-G in Garmisch-Partenkirchen after winning the day before her first World Cup downhill. After an unspecified injury in the spring and two months of on-snow training, she affirms that she wouldn’t be able to reach her absolute top level.

FIS would like to wish this outstanding athlete all the best for her future plans and thank her for the great moments and emotions throughout the years.
