The Icelandic ski association (SKI) is seeking a supervisor and head coach for the Icelandic national alpine teams. The head coach of the national alpine teams appertains to the managing director of SKI. The post includes supervision of all activities concerning the national alpine teams, professionally and financially. The home base of the team will be in Akureyri, Iceland and thus it is recommended that the employer will reside in Akureyri. However, the post requires a lot of travelling,up to 100 days annually, both in Iceland and abroad. The main future project for the post is to build up strategy for the national high performance teams for the coming years as well as preparation for the 2014 Olympics in Sochi.
Field of work
• Supervisor and head coach of the national alpine skiing teams • Supervision and responsibility for financial matters of the SKI alpine skiing committee • Responsibility and planning of training and competition trips • Hiring coaches/assistants for projects on behalf of SKI • Participating in forming strategy for the coming years for SKI • Cooperation with the educational committee of SKI concerning education of coaches
Educational and skill requirements
• University degree in sport sciences preferable • Education in alpine coaching necessary • Work experience in alpine training • Good communication skills • Good knowledge in English necessary, knowledge in German is an advantage • Initiative and independency in work is important
The Icelandic Ski Association is one of the affiliations of The Icelandic Olympic and Sports Association and the ultimate organisation in skiing matters in Iceland. One of SKI’s main role is training of elite skiers and preparation for participation in major events, e.g. World Championships and the Olympics.
