Cool head proves crucial for Men's Ski Jumping Gold Medallist LANISEK (SLO)
SEEFELD, Jan 14 - Men's Individual Ski Jumping Gold medallist Anze LANISEK (SLO) displayed a remarkably cool head under pressure to take the title at the Innsbruck 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games on Saturday.
The 15 year old insisted he had felt no nerves ahead of his crucial final jump of the day at the Seefeld Arena.
"I was thinking about nothing. I was really relaxed on that jump," he said. "I just focussed on being relaxed, nothing special."
The Official Training sessions held on January 12 and 13 indicated that Mats S BERGGAARD (NOR) would be the man to beat in the event, although LANISEK did have a strong showing during the second training session.
It was during the first and final rounds of Saturday's competition that LANISEK's skills came to the fore, with the two longest jumps of the day, at 81 m and 79 m respectively, for a total score of 286.1.
BERGGAARD was philosophical after having to settle for Silver.
"After training I was hoping for Gold, but it's great with Silver too," he said. "My mum was expecting Silver, so she will be happy with that."
