SWIX SKI CLASSICS. Birkebeinerrennet decided to cancel the race this morning after following the weather throughout the night. The organisation considered the risk too high having a start at this year edition of Birkebeinerrennet. There is very strong wind over the mountains which forced them to cancel the race.

The women starts Birkebeinerrennet
Birkebeinerrennet follows Årefjällsloppet and La Diagonela on Saturday having the elite women starting before the elite men.
The Swix Ski Classics races usually have a simultaneously start for the women and men but at Birkebeinerrennet on Saturday the women will start first in Rena going the 54 km long race with a backpack along the track that passes Raudfjellet and Midtfjellet before heading down to the finish in Lillehammer. The skiers will face many tough climbs where the conditions can vary from the valley to the top and also with changing weather along the course.
There are two Swix Ski Classics sprints: Skramstad after 9 km and Kvarstad after 27 km. John Kristian Dahl (Team United Bakeries) is currently wearing the green sprint bib.
Seraina Boner and Johan Kjølstad are leading Swix Ski Classics, while Christoffer Callesen (Team LeasePlan Go) will wear the pink jersey in the men's youth competition while Tuva Toftdahl Staver (Team Coop) will wear the pink jersey. Tuva is having the same points as Inger Liv Bjerkreim Nilsen (Team United Bakeries) in the women's youth competition but she has better results from the previous races. Team United Bakeries is leading the Team Competition.
