OLYMPICS. VANCOUVER, Feb 27 - Petra Majdic of Slovenia received Terry Fox award. "The recipients have shown incredible courage and determination, while also overcoming adversity." Explained Betty Fox - Terry Fox's mother and director of the Terry Fox Foundation principle of the award at a press conference at the Main Press Centre on Saturday. Petra MAJDIC (SLO), who broke several ribs when she fell into a gully during training before the Ladies' Individual Sprint C competition, but went on to take Bronze. "You will find when you meet Petra that she is a remarkable young woman extraordinarily proud of her achievement. The people of her country are immensely proud of what she has done and she will come home to a hero's welcome." added John Furlong, VANOC CEO. Petra Majdic was very happy and proud to having received such an award. "I was shocked by winning the Bronze medal. But yesterday, when they told me what I get today, I was shaking." Explained the sprint bronze medalist her feelings and expressed thanks to her team: "I didn't run this run for myself, but for them. They were the ones to believe in me, they were the only people to believe in me." Terry Fox is very well known in Europe and his life story has been inspirational for many also thanks to a famous movie. "I saw it when I was much younger. Terry Fox is really famous also in Europe. This movie was an inspiration to me. It was motivation to grow, to achieve not normal things." Petra Majdic was a medal hope in team sprint and pursuit and also in last race of the Olympics - 30 km Mass Start Classic. But her injury prevented her from starting. "I asked myself many times why this happened to me. Why? And today is one of those moments when I realized why."
