SKI JUMPING. The four time Olympic Champion Simon Ammann from Switzerland has now decided to continue his ski jumping career.
"Already a year ago I told myself that I want to make an assessment after the World Championships in Oslo and speak about my future with my immediate environment", the 29-year-old told in a media release of the Swiss Ski Association.
The inner fire is still burning
"Even if I had to struggle with back problems at the beginning of last season, my job is still a lot of fun for me. I feel prepared to also handle the difficult times in the life of an athlete - the inner fire is burning. I various talks I also felt that my partners and fans support me completely. So there was nothing in the way of making the decision to continue my career. I'm looking forward to more starts in the World Cup and long jumps."
Schoedler: Important for young jumpers
Also Berni Schoedler, head of ski jumping at Swiss Ski, is of course happy with the decision of his best athlete.
"It is very important for our young athletes that they can benefit from a jumper like Simon Ammann. Besides his sporting goals it's also important for him to pass on his know-how and his "winning spirit" to the young teammates."
