Austrian ski racer Marcel Hirscher had a severe car accident today in Abtenau (AUT). The 23-year-old Salzburg resident could avoid a frontal crash through a lucky move at the final moment. His car (Audi R8) was completely destroyed in the crash.

Marcel Hirscher was able to return home after examination in the emergency room in the Salzburg hospital. "I am happy that I was able to react so fast and managed to avoid a frontal crash. I did hit a tree but that was the better choice for me today. Thank god that nothing happened. I am hurting a bit everywhere but there is nothing major, with the exception of some scratches and headache. Given the circumstances that is really not too bad. I am happy that no one got hurt and I do expect to be back in training very soon again."
