ALPINE SKI. The "Planai" in Schladming played host once again to one of the biggest night slaloms of the Men's World Cup Tour and it was a memorable one. Henrik Kristoffersen (NOR) claimed his 21st World Cup Victory, the 3rd of the season and the 4th in Schladming! The Norwegian, who clocked the second fastest time in run 1 under a heavy snowfall, came back in the second run to win his second slalom race of the season.
In the second run, Kristoffersen made a big mistake after 3 gates and it looked like his race was compromised. The Norwegian talent however, pulled himself together and performed a terrific second part of the second run to keep the lead.
Marco Schwarz (AUT), who was leading in front of his crowd after run 1, made a similar mistake to the one of Kristoffersen and had to see his dreams vanish after only 6 gates.
Same as last year, Alexis Pinturault (FRA) finished second and Daniel Yule (SUI) third.
The French man skied two impressive runs and brought home a positive result after two DNFs in the last two slalom races. It's the second slalom podium for Pinturault, after his victory in Val d'Isere (FRA) back in December.
Yule confirms his great moment and achieves another podium, the fourth in the last five races. For the Swiss slalom ace, it's the third cosecutive year that he finishes in third position in the Austrian night slalom.
Clement Noel (FRA) nearly makes it to the podium after a disappointing first run, which saw him score the 30th time. The French youngster was able to exploit the perfect slope of the second run and climbed up 26 positions to finish fourth!
After this race, Henrik Kristoffersen consolidates his lead in both the Slalom and the Overall standings. The Tour now heads to Garmisch-Partenkirchen (GER), with one Downhill and one Giant Slalom on the program for next weekend.
