Canada's Steve Omischl and defending Olympic champ Evelyne Leu of Switzerland took home aerial World Cup wins on the 2010 Olympic venue in Cypress Mountain outside Vancouver Friday night.
Omischl was the winner in a bizarre tiebreaker with Anton Kushnir of Belarus. Not only did they tie on total points, but had identical scores on each jump. The tie was broken by landing scores.
The aerial Freestyle FIS World Cup now heads to Moscow for the next event next weekend with another huge crowd expected.
The ski cross World Cup also continued on Friday. Local stars Chris DelBosco and Aleisha Cline each won as Canadians collected five of the six ski cross podium places. In the men's race, Stan Hayer was second and Davey Barr third. Tomas Kraus of the Czech Republic was the other finalist and took fourth spot.
DelBosco praised the Olympic course. "This is how ski cross should be," he said.
In the women's race, Cline continued an amazing comeback after a four-year hiatus for the win. Ashleigh McIvor (CAN) was second and Karin Huttary of Austria third.
The World Cup ski cross circuit now heads to Norway and Sweden before the World Championships in Inawashiro, Japan in early March.
