FIS. The traditional FIS Calendar Conference began with the first meetings day today, 1st June in Portoroz, Slovenia. During the next three days, some fifty additional meetings of FIS Technical Committees, Sub-Committees, Working Groups and numerous informal gatherings will take place to debate issues related to the development of ski sports - and this in beautiful surroundings.
Portoroz, the host of the FIS Congress in 2002 and the FIS Calendar Conference in 1999 and 2007, is a village in part of Piran which provides excellent conditions with the Grand Hotel Resort Bernadin for the FIS family to convene. Current weather is most pleasant and it is expected to stay warm with temperatures of up to around 30° C with just a small risk of showers during the next days. The sea, too, offers comfortable temperatures of around 20° C and invites for a short and refreshing break in between the intensive meeting schedule.
Hotel Bernadin also provides the FIS guests with "specials" in the many restaurants and bars as well in their own spa area to relax and re-energize. A variety of local restaurants with a range of of menus can be found in Portoroz and Piran, situated just a 15 min walk away, whilst the beautiful old town of Piran is another good reason to visit the main town.
After the FIS Calendar Conference, the FIS World Cup Organizers' Seminar will conclude the busy week on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning, before the FIS Council convenes in the capital of Slovenia, Ljubljana early next week.
