ROLLER SKI. Charlotte Kalla won the second competition of the FIS Rollerski World Championships in Aure/Kristiansund. Olympic World Champion dominated today’s 17 km Mass Start free and took crushing victory ahead of Norway’s Heidi Weng and Ksenia Konokhova of Russia. After 6.2 km there were 12 athletes packed together within 3 seconds.
In the second half of the race Kalla speeded up and left behind Weng and Hansson. Charlotte Kalla crossed unchallanged the finish line and beat Weng by +49 sec. Konokhova on the bronze place lost +1:19.8 sec.
Second gold medal for Northug
Norwegian super star Petter Northug turned his second participation in the Rollerski World Championships into second gold medal as he won today’s 24 km Mass Start Free. Sweden’s Anders Svanebo was fighting hard and lost on the Norwegian only +2.7 sec. Simone Paredi of Italy claimed bronze medal with +9.5 sec gap.
Kvaale celebrates second title
In the junior class Barbro Kvaale has produced 100% efficiency and scored her second gold medal. Marika Sundin of Sweden lost +8.0 sec and took silver medal. Evgenia Feshina of Russia finished third.
After bronze medal in yesterday’s classical uphill race, Armenian Sergey Mikayelyan moved to the top and was the quickest among junior men. Young Armenian beat by +4.4 sec Anton Budylov of Russia and Romain Claudon of France.
Rollerskiing specialists have a day off tomorrow.
